My project for this summer is to give Firefox the ability to render JPEG 2000 images. At least initially, I’ll write it as an extension targeting the as-yet-unreleased code that will eventually be called Firefox 3.0. Adventurous users may install a possibly-unstable nightly build of Firefox (at their own risk!) and, when it’s publicly available, my extension. At that point, pages like Gemal’s Image Format Support test page should show a “Supported!” image in the JPEG 2000 column, like this:
