On Taking Time

TrueCrypt is a very nice drive/file-level encrypter, but gosh: 19999 MB NTFS file with 50957951 sectors takes 5754 seconds to format. Ouch.

Still better than a full-quality H.264 DVD encode, which takes about 24 hours on my machine. Ouch. The worst part is that it doesn’t really give noticeably better quality compared to a vanilla DivX encode that takes only six hours, which is an absolutely perfect length of time to run overnight. Hmm.
